Dr. Esam is a Consultant Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) and Director of the CanMEDS Collaborating Center at the King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS), Ministry of National Guard-Health Affairs, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Albanyan obtained his MBBS from King Saud University, Riyadh in 1990. He completed his pediatric residency at Tufts University, Boston followed by a clinical fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases from Baylor in Houston Texas. Shortly after joining KAMC, Dr. Albanyan was appointed Director of the newly established Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship program where he was involved in developing the fellowship curriculum and assessment. He subsequently served as Director of Medical Education at the KSAU-HS, overseeing 23 residency programs and 30 fellowship programs. He serves on several University and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties scientific committees, including the Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship Committee. He is involved in the development of several Infectious Disease policies such as the pediatric and adult vaccine schedules. He is active in the development and teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate Infectious Disease curricula.
